Meet the OWNER
"You should start a bakery!", over the years people have said this or variations of it and every time I shrugged it off. While I was always very pleased to hear that others felt my baking was worthy of and good enough to put a price tag on and sell to the public, I lacked the same confidence in myself. I'm happy to say that time and encouragement and experience have brought me to the same level of "you should do this" that so many of you have seen in me over the years.
Hi, I'm Malia! I've been baking since I was a kid (hello, latch-key kid of the 80s!) and it's always brought me immense joy, delight, and pleasure. I never really considered making a career out of it and then, well, 2020 happened. To be fair, I had a very good, very stable job and was even among those who were fortunate enough to work from home in the Spring of 2020. But something about the pandemic brought truths of life into focus. So in September, I left that job and became a baker at local pie themed restaurant. Then in the Spring of 2021, I went into the dining hall kitchens at Belmont and worked in their bakery department under a trained pastry chef. While I was furloughed for the summer, I took online baking classes, taught myself how to make croissants and macarons, and created a successful sourdough starter. As the school year drew closer, I decided not to return to Belmont but to take this passion and turn it into a business. And here we are today!
I live in Brentwood with my husband, our teenage son, and our German Shepherd Dog, Atlas. In addition to all things food & baking related, I enjoy reading (especially cookbooks, I just can't help it!), mixing good cocktails, and hanging out by a fire.
